Life Story for Verna Doreen Hackman

Verna Doreen Hackman
Verna Hackman, resident of Legacy Lodge in Lethbridge., formerly of Yorkton, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the age of 77 years. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Larry) Coulter, Grace (Ken) Arvay, Dale Hackman, Angela (Brent) Miller. Grandchildren, Lindsay Coulter (Chris Palmer), Andy (Terra) Coulter, Braden Hackman, Riley Hackman, Dylan (Nicole) Arvay, and Kendra Arvay. Great grandchildren, Madison Garry and Ryker Arvay. Verna was predeceased by her sister Alice Romanuik; parents Fred and Ann Slapinski; grandson, Dustyn Arvay and the love of her life, her husband William. Verna worked alongside her husband Bill, over the years in many endeavours. From helping on the farm with Bill, to working at a chick hatchery, to eventually helping Bill open Hackman Feeds where she worked for many years. Verna loved traveling with Bill and her children, drinking Baby Duck every weekend with Bill, Sunday Chinese food at Dan's Pagoda and listening to Don Williams. After the passing of Bill, while heartbroken, Verna chose to continue to embrace the rich life her and Bill shared. She continued to travel with her girlfriends, have weekly card games and weekend dances. Her children laughingly remember the time they were coming to visit from Alberta, where Verna said the door will be unlocked, there is beer and food in the fridge see you after the dance! Verna travelled with her children often in the winters to warm destinations and every summer to Alberta. She is fondly remembered spending money on dresses in Montana, camping, quadding and babysitting her granddogs which happily dragged her around the campgrounds on their "walks!" She had a love for life and family like no one we have ever met and we each could learn a lesson or two from how she lived. She tried everything her children asked her to try (not quietly) and she had no regrets. Her children, and grandchildren were lucky to have been blessed with such an amazing woman. We had so many good times with her and the song "Always Stay Humble and Kind" was Verna! We will miss her more than words can express but, alas she is reunited with the love of her life, her grandson, and all her other friends and family that went before her. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 27th 2018 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Rev. Deborah Smith of Westview United Church officiated. Son-in-law Ken Arvay gave the eulogy. Pianist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns Amazing Grace, In the Bulb There Is A Flower, and Lord of the Dance. The interment tok place in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Dylan Arvay, Braden and Riley Hackman, Darcy Romaniuk, Andy Coulter and Madison Garry serving as the casketbearers. Memorials were to the Alzheimers Society. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com
