Obituary for Olga Kitzan

Olga Kitzan
Olga Kitzan passed away May 31, 2017 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina at 92 years of age. Olga was born February 18, 1925 to John and Eustania Kominetsky in the Mamornitz district. Olga was the 4th of 7 children. She attended Vasloutz School. Following school, she worked on the family farm. Olga married George Kitzan on March 1, 1952. They both worked on their farm north of Theodore. They were blessed with three children; Mervin, Dwayne and Karen. Olga was a homemaker, wife and mother. She took on several other duties on the farm. She was a member of the Mamornitz Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Ukrainian Women’s Association- Ann Cholod Branch at Mamornitz for 36 years.
Besides helping on the farm and raising chickens, she grew big gardens to feed her family, and tended to her flower gardens and raspberry bushes. Through the years, she had many hobbies and interests. She was a seamstress, sewing and stitching clothing for her family. She made and decorated many wedding and anniversary cakes, as well as elaborate theme birthday cakes for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed working with ceramics, and over the years acquired several pieces from working at the Diana May Clay Shop. She spent countless hours doing cross-stitching, of which many of these beautiful framed prints hang on the walls in her home. She was also a serious Bingo player. As her lady friends from her street moved away, she joined the Theodore Perogy Pinchers, and enjoyed social time with them. With all her busy activities, she always made time and took pride in attending her grandchildren’s activities. She also was an avid fan of the Theodore Buffalos Senior Hockey Team and held a season ticket holder seat.
She was predeceased by her husband, parents, sister Mary, and brothers George, Bill, and Joe. She is survived by sisters Sophie Kominetsky and Geraldine Fosty. She is also survived by her daughter Karen Smith (Marty Antonini) of Calgary, sons Mervin (Christine Pederson) of Lloydminster, and Dwayne (Deb) of Theodore. Olga is also survived by her six grandchildren, Keaghan Smith, Danielle Kitzan (Darin Kardash), Krista and Karla Kitzan and their mother Glenda Kitzan and Colton and Kaitlyn Kitzan.
Olga lived a very good long life and always cherished family and friends. We were all blessed to have her with us for this many years. Together, her and George, were to celebrate their 65th Anniversary on March 1 of this year. We will miss her, but are reassured they are now together again.
