Obituary for Catherine Ann Abrahamson

Catherine Ann Abrahamson
Catherine (Cathy) Abrahamson of Melville, Saskatchewan passed away April 8, 2017.
Cathy was born September 15, 1953 in Windsor, Ontario to Frank and Mary Martine (Slipiec). Cathy was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, most of her aunts and all of her uncles, and a few dear cousins.
Cathy is survived by her husband Bart and daughter Jacqueline Abrahamson and her husband Jeremy Gabel and grandchildren Declan and Quinn; Sister Alison (Jeff) Amos, in-laws Gordon and Lillian Abrahamson, Aunts Clara Slipiec and Hazel Major, sisters-in-law Linda (Brian) Noe, Laurelle (Ken) Rodych, and Judy (Murray) Savage. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews and her many friends.
Cathy spent her early years in the Rose City, Windsor graduating from high school in 1971 with her grade thirteen. Perfect school attendance was the routine. She attended St. Claire College graduating and then working at the University of Windsor until 1980. Hitch hiking for lunch was not uncommon. Enjoying the night life of Windsor and Detroit was a must. Her life revolved around family and friends. Cathy’s summers were spent visiting grandparents and cousins in and around Gronlid, Saskatchewan. She adapted to the farm life mastering the challenges of all farm chores including the milking of cows. The summer of 1974 was special as under her sister’s directions she picked up her future husband on highway 3 between Melfort and Star City. Later in life she limited her farm skills by announcing she did not burn flax!
Cathy married the love of her life in 1980 and they have lived in Melville ever since. Cathy’s life was to make Bart a kept man and manage the home front. Cathy was a fabulous cook learned at the apron of her mother. Cathy loved to laugh and with her genuine warmth quickly developed lifelong friends. Her ability to remember names including their children and birthdays was amazing. Cathy lived for her grandchildren fix and her last Facetime was with them. Cathy enjoyed Chinese food, food, coffee times, family and friends gatherings and Christmas year round. Cathy loved to travel and especially wintering in Arizona these past dozen years. She was a card shark and prior to marriage was a dominating force in the euchre card club world of Windsor winning many competitions.
Cathy loved Arizona. Golf, happy hours, pot lucks and desert trips were okay but lookout Outlet Malls. During our initial trips she could handle a 5th Wheel with the best of them. This past winter was hard on Cathy as Arizona was not a possibility. She made it through most of her health issues under the tutorage and support of her pacemaker cousin.
Cathy would want us to celebrate her life, remember the good times, laugh a lot and watch over her grandchildren.
